Saturday 2nd April

4 – 6pm : Exhibition Private View with classical guitarist David Roden and pianist David Tripp-Coney

6 – 11pm : Launch Party with live music, performance and film screenings including Saxophonist Joe Wright, Singer-Songwriter Tom Charleston, Banjo-playing Singer Blanche Ellis and Watford-born percussionist Simon Roth. 

Monday 4th April (Exhibition open all day, 10am – 5pm)

6 – 8pm | £5: Letterpress Printing workshop with Jessica Jane Charleston

Jessica will bring in her Adana Press and a selection of beautiful type to experiment with the art of letterpress printing. Pages can be printed to be bound into a book later on in the week with Amelie if participants would like.

Tuesday 5th April (Exhibition open all day, 10am – 5pm)

10am – 12pm | £5: Capturing a Community – Photography workshop with Chloe Edwards

Combining modern picture taking with the classic genre of documentary photography we will explore the idea of what makes up a community.

From these ideas we’ll create a brief and go out on location on a photographic journey creating a modern documentary of the people and places that make up the jigsaw of modern life in Watford.

The end results will be high tech and low fi- sharing our images with the wider world by taking over Makeready’s Instagram account for the day and also creating simple photocopied and magnified prints  that will be used and transformed as part of Mary Herberts’s drawing workshop on Thursday the 7th.

Requirements: Enthusiasts of all levels are welcome. Please bring an inquisitive spirit and a camera phone.

6-8pm | £5 Jewellery making workshop with Jewellery Designer Lucie Ellen

Necklace making workshop with Lucie Ellen. Hand paint and collage onto a wooden pendant to make a unique necklace.

Wednesday 6th April (Exhibition open all day, 10am – 5pm)

6 – 8pm | £5: Lino Printing workshop with Naomi Pratt

Lino printing is a simple and direct way of achieving striking images and extending drawings. In this workshop we will explore the whole process from drawing to carving and printing. 

Thursday 7th April (Exhibition open all day, 10am – 5pm)

10am-12pm | £5: Drawing workshop inspired by the book A World of Your Own (by Laura Carlin) with artist Mary Herbert

A World of Watford  Try out some playful drawing techniques and create a collaborative piece of artwork in this relaxed family workshop. Taking Laura Carlin’s book A World of Your Own as inspiration, we’ll create people, houses, buildings, animals and transport to re-imagine Watford and it’s surroundings. If possible please bring a photocopied photo of yourself to use in the artwork.

 6 – 8pm | £5: Bookbinding workshop with professional binder Amelie Genestine-Charlton

Amelie will be leading a workshop on 3 & 5 hole pamphlet stitch binding. Pamphlet stitch binding is a simple and satisfying way to learn how to create your own bespoke book. Perfect for creating your own note books and sketch books using a technique that you will be able to recreate at home.

8pm: Spoken Word Evening with piano accompaniment

Friday 8th April (Exhibition open all day, 10am – 5pm)
